This Road

Salam Warahmatullah..

Alhamdulillah, today is the dawn of a new era.
One by one, Muslims are waking up from their worldly slumber.
They gather in rememberance of Allah, and they gather to purify their hearts.
They gather to acknowledge the beauty of what this religion brings.
They gather and hold hands to move forward in a straight path;
Because they believe, "Indeed, Allah loves those who fight in His cause in a row as though they are a [single] structure joined firmly."[61:4]

It's a path less traveled, the one that they walk in.
the path to reightousness, where their destination is divine spirituality, and God.

But as I walk through this path, it makes me think;
Why am I in this path to Allah?

Why?

So I lived my days walking along this road,
Sometimes straight, sometimes not.
This road that I walk in is filled with cracks,
Cracks that stumbles and parallyzes the common man,
But is a mere obstacle for the believer.

If you ask me, why did I choose this path?
Why should I trouble myself when i can snuggle under the comfort of money and wealth?
Why should I endure when i can just give in and move on with life?

Because this morning, i witness a lady holding a flashlight and a bag with her right hand, and her left hand rummaged through the garbage for the last few plastic bottles that were left.
Because last week, another lady got fired as a result of the declining capitalistic American economy.
Because months ago, images of the innocent palestinian children haunted my mind.
Because years ago, muslims were branded 'terrorists' as a result of 9/11
Because a few decades ago, we rejected religion, when we lost our leader, our caliph.

And the best part is, the list keeps on growing day by day.
But what really pushes me to strive in this path, is
Because centuries ago, a humble man named Muhammad changed all the oppression and injustice in Makkah when he called people to Allah.
That's why.

ya muqallibal qulub, tsabbit qalbi 'aladdeenik watha'atiq
