Salam..
When will my time come?
Will I live the same life he lived?
Will I be better than him?
How will I die?
Will my life be just another waste of oxygen, or will it benefit the ummah?
Will i be resurrected with my deeds speaking on my behalf?
or will my tongue bring forth immense heat?
What will become of me?
He lived his life, he did what he could do.
Now it's my turn. That's just how life is.
While we can, let's make it right.
Even if we cant make it right, lets strive for it.
For if we dont get to heaven because of our deeds,
At least our efforts will gain Allah's mercy.
As i think about death,
i cant help to ask myself;
What is the purpose of life?
"And i did not create the Jinns and mankind except to worship Me."
While the ayat is simple, the meaning is deep.
Humans in general are always slaves; whether we know it or not
We were born not being able to choose which race we are from, or what color is our skin, or how rich or poor we are. We are slaves to the situation.
We always have the urge to eat, to feel happy, to satisfy our sexual desires. We are slaves to our desires.
We care about what people think, how people perceive us, what ranks we belong to, which society/group we associate with/ how much money we make. We are slaves to the society.
Yet Islam comes to liberate us; from being slaves to all of those things, to be the slaves of Allah. From being trapped in the narrowness and unfair world, to the vast and just hereafter.
From the words of Rab'ie bin Amir,
“God sent us, and He brought us here in order to lead whom He wills from the worship of man to the worship of God alone; from the narrowness and oppression of this world to the space and abundance of the hereafter; and from the injustice of other religions to the justice of Islam. He has sent us with His religion of His creation, to call them to Him.”May we live up to that standard of an 'Abid.
